Mississauga is the sixth-largest city in Canada. Located in southern Ontario on the shores of Lake Ontario, it forms part of the Regional Municipality of Peel in the central section of the Greater Toronto Area, just west of Toronto. According to the 2011 Canadian Census, the city has a population of 713,443, making it Canada’s sixth most populous municipality. Originally developed as a suburb of Toronto, Mississauga’s growth is closely linked to its proximity to the city. It is the most populous suburb in Anglo-America. In recent decades, Mississauga has attracted a highly multicultural population and has been working on developing its city centre. People who live in the city are known as Mississaugans or Saugans. Toronto Pearson International Airport, the busiest airport in Canada, is located in Mississauga, which is also home to the Canadian headquarters of many major corporations.
