Castelldefels is a town in the Baix Llobregat area of Catalonia, within the Barcelona Metropolitan Area, on a stretch of coastline known as the Costa del Garraf. MAIN TOURIST ATTRACTIONS Castelldefels Castle This castle is one of the town’s most iconic landmarks. It was built in the 10th century over earlier Iberian and Roman remains. For centuries it served as a defensive stronghold against Arab incursions and pirate raids. Today it is open to visitors and can host a variety of events. The complex is a fortified enclosure dominated by a tall circular tower. Garraf Nature Park Much of the Garraf area has a distinctly southern Mediterranean landscape. There are clearly waymarked routes, mostly circular, which link the main viewpoints and places of interest in the park and highlight its rich natural and cultural heritage. Castelldefels Beach Castelldefels Beach is a long sweep of fine golden sand, 18 km south of Barcelona, set between two contrasting ecosystems: the wetland and reedbed habitats of the Llobregat River delta and the limestone hills of Garraf Park. The beach is 4.8 km long, with an average width of 90 metres and a total surface area of around 500,000 m². Here you can try a wide range of water sports as well as swim, sunbathe, and stroll along the sand or the seafront promenade.
