Mazatlán is a coastal city in the Mexican state of Sinaloa and the seat of the Mazatlán Municipality. It lies on the Pacific Ocean at 23°13′N 106°25′W, across from the southern tip of the Baja California Peninsula. The name Mazatlán comes from Nahuatl and means “place of deer.” The city was founded in 1531 by Spaniards and Indigenous settlers.
