Rijeka Hangang dijeli Seoul na dva različita područja, sjever i jug. Grad se nalazi u prirodnom bazenu, okružen Hanbuk planinskim lancem i nizom brežuljaka, nudeći prekrasnu prirodnu ljepotu koja je jedan od glavnih aduta Seoula. Kao drevno sjedište korejske kraljevske obitelji, po cijelom su gradu rasprostranjene mnoge palače i tvrđave. Neki od najvažnijih su Gyeongbok-gung, Changdeok-gung i Deoksu-gung.
